Trip to Las Vegas, Nevada (Click on any image to load a larger copy)
Introduction
I flew out to Las Vegas on Wednesday, September 19th, only 8 days after the tragedy at the World Trade center
and at the Pentagon. I had booked the trip several months earlier using my frequent flyer miles and did not want
to change my plans because of the action of a few lunatics. Also I wanted to help the airline and hotel
industries at a time where most people were canceling their trips.
After arriving at the airport 4 hours before my departure, I found the airport nearly deserted and because I arrived so early, I was able to move my seat to bulkhead EconomyPlus. The flight out to Las Vegas was 30% full and not only did I have a bulkhead EconomyPlus, I had an entire row of them. The only other thing I found interesting about the flight was the meal. I was server dinner with a metal fork but a plastic knife. I stayed at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas and due to the lack of tourists in the city; I was able to renegotiate the rate on my room and reduced it by 80 USD for my stay. I of course lost about that much at the Blackjack Table in the Hotel's Casino. I had planned to see Hoover Dam on Thursday, but that had to be canceled because the dam was closed due to the terrorist threat. I spent Thursday walking from the Flamingo to MGM, spending some time at Paris, Aladdin, and M & M world. Thursday night, I saw "Crazy Girls" at the Riviera. Friday, I headed up the Strip to The Venetian spending some time at the Imperial Palace. Later I went to the Luxor and saw some IMAX movies. After the Luxor, I went to New York - New York and Bellagio. At the Bellagio, I caught the Cirque du Soleil's "O" show on Friday and was quite amazed at the artists abilities. On Saturday, I woke up early and headed out to the airport. I was quite early for my scheduled flight and was able to switch to an earlier flight that went straight to Dulles. The flight was as uneventful as the first but was about 50% full.
